Yvonne Weekes is a writer, actor, academic, dramatist who has the distinction of being the first Director of Culture in Montserrat. She has taught in London, Montserrat and Barbados. In Barbados she developed the Associate Degree in Theatre Arts at the Barbados Community College where she worked for 17 years before moving to the University of the West Indies where she currently teaches Theatre on the Cave Hill Campus. Yvonne won the Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Award in 2005 with her memoir entitled "Volcano" (Peepal Tree Press, 2006). Her other publications include: Blue Soap in an anthology of plays by women entitled "Emancipation Moments" (2010 ) and "Nomad" (House of Nehesi, 2019) prose and academic writings in anthologies and academic journal respectively.
